In a statement, NutriAsia clarified that the temporary halt in shipments was due to updated regulations concerning Potassium Iodate, a common food additive.
"In the Philippines, food products are legally required to use Potassium Iodate while the US FDA just very recently announced new requirements around this ingredient,” NutriAsia said.
"As such, the discussion around Potassium Iodate today is not a safety issue but rather a regulatory requirement which varies by country,” it added.
The company, however, noted its commitment to consumer safety and swift compliance with regulatory changes.
"NutriAsia prioritizes the safety and well-being of our consumers and will always immediately comply to regulatory changes," NutriAsia added.
The reformulated sauces are now available for US consumers, ensuring continued access to Filipino culinary staples like Mang Tomas lechon sauce and UFC and Jufran banana ketchup.
