Elberto Maxino, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, arrived at the Mabolo Police Station around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to secure a police clearance.
Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr., chief of the Mabolo Police Station, said Maxino needed the National Police Clearance (NPC) as part of the requirement for a job that he was applying for.
While the document was being processed, it was found out in the system that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for murder, a non-bailable offense.
The warrant was issued by Presiding Judge Candelario Gonzales of Branch 45 in Bais City, Negros Oriental. The warrant was issued on January 19, 2010.
Police said Maxino admitted committing the crime in 2019 in Bais although he was unaware that an arrest warrant was issued against him.
The man was temporarily detained at the custodial facility of the Mabolo Police Station.
Caacoy said the NPC is connected with the e-warrant system where all individuals securing a police clearance will be checked if they have been implicated in a crime.
