Septuagenarian farmer electrocuted to death


TACLOBAN CITY – A 70-year-old farmer was electrocuted to death on Monday, Nov. 4, after accidentally tripping on a live wire outside his neighbor's fence in Sitio Lawis, Barangay New Balanac, Villaba, Leyte.

Police said the victim, Mario, was on his way to his farm when he stumbled on the live wire intentionally set up by his neighbor, a barangay official, to deter theft. 

The Pulis sa Barangay of Barangay New Balanac and the Villaba Municipal Police Station arrived in the area and found out that Mario's body had been moved to his house by his relatives. 

The victim's body was transported to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Villaba for a post-mortem examination. 

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine if charges can filed against the barangay official.
