Village dad wounded in Leyte gun attack

TACLOBAN CITY - A barangay kagawad or councilor was shot and wounded by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Cagnoot, Villaba, Leyte on Monday, Nov. 25.

Police identified the victim as Barangay Cagnoot Kagawad Jun.

Investigation said that the victim was driving a motorcycle with his wife as backrider on their way home after buying groceries when two men wearing black shirts onboard a motorcycle appeared beside them.

One of the suspects shot the victim in the cheek. He lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a coconut tree.

The gunmen fled toward Barangay Cagnocot proper and the victim was taken to the Villaba Community Hospital.

He was later referred to a hospital in Ormoc City, Leyte.

Police are conducting pursuit operation and follow-up investigation.
