Cops nab illegal recruiter in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested 46-year-old suspected illegal recruiter here on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Police Col. Ruel Tagel, Baguio City police director, said the suspect offered a job in Poland to her victim and encouraged him to transfer money to secure his deployment.

Despite the payment, the victim obtained no job, prompting him to file a complaint in Isabela against the suspect with her alleged cohorts.

A regional trial court in Roxas, Isabela issued a warrant of arrest against the suspect.

The Baguio City Police Office Intelligence Unit, with the BCPO Station 7, Regional Intelligence Division-Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region, City Intelligence Team Baguio Regional Intelligence Unit-14, and Roxas Municipal Police Station mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The accused was taken to Roxas where she is set to face the charges filed against her.

The BCPO urged the public to be vigilant when seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Tagel said applicants should only transact with agencies licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.

“The BCPO, in collaboration with other law enforcement units, will relentlessly pursue those who prey on the dreams of our countrymen. We encourage the public to report similar incidents or any activities that threaten justice and peace within the community,” Tagel said.
