During the Nov. 17 episode of CIA with BA, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano shared valuable insight into the power of words with his co-hosts, Senator Pia Cayetano and Boy Abunda.

As they wrapped up the episode, Kuya Alan posed a thought-provoking question to the audience and the Mariteam: “Naniniwala ba kayong may power sa words?”

He observed how people, especially mothers, often downplay their roles by adding “lang” when describing their responsibilities at home.

“Kasi napapansin ko ‘pag tinatanong, lalo [‘yung mga nanay], ang sagot, ‘Sa bahay,’ tapos may ‘lang,’” he noted.

He stressed that while a spouse might work a 9 to 5 job, homemakers work 24/7. He emphasized that the law acknowledges the equal importance of their contributions.

“Yes, nagtatrabaho ‘yung spouse, minsan 9 to 5, minsan longer. Pero ‘pag homemaker ka, 24/7 ka. Even sa batas, kinikilala na equal ang inyong kontribusyon at trabaho,” he said. “’Pag nila-lang natin [ang] sarili natin, bakit, hindi ba marangal ang trabaho?”

Encouraging everyone to recognize the value in what they do, he concluded, “If there’s power in words, let’s start practicing it.”

Boy Abunda agreed with this perspective, sharing a personal anecdote.

“Importante talaga ‘yon,” he said, recalling his upbringing in Samar. “Pagka kinukumusta kami, ako nakalakhan ko, [na isinasagot], ‘Ito, Waray.’ It’s a way of humbling ourselves.”

The conversation underscored the significance of language in shaping one’s mindset and how we perceive our roles, highlighting a call to value every effort and responsibility.

‘CIA with BA’ continues the legacy of the late Senator Rene Cayetano and airs every Sunday at 11 p.m. on GMA7, with replays on GTV the following Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
