Manila announces road closures, rerouting scheme for Asics marathon

Several roads in Manila will be temporarily closed this coming weekend due to the ASICS Rock 'n' Roll Running Series, the local government announced on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

In a public advisory posted on the Manila Public Information Office's social media page, the affected roads will be closed from 9 p.m. on Nov. 23 until 6 a.m. on Nov. 24. The closures are part of preparations for the popular marathon event, which will draw participants and spectators to the city's streets.

The following roads will be closed during the specified hours:

  • Roxas Blvd. (from Katigbak Drive to Pres. Quirino Avenue)
  • Bonifacio Drive (from Anda Circle to Katigbak Drive)
  • Katigbak Drive and South Drive
  • Independence Road
  • Padre Burgos Avenue (from Roxas Blvd. to Jones Bridge, continuing to Quintin Paredes cor. Ongpin Street)
  • Maria Orosa Street (from Padre Burgos to Kalaw Avenue)
  • Finance Road (from Padre Burgos Ave to Taft Avenue)
  • Northbound lane of Taft Avenue (from Ayala Boulevard to Padre Burgos Avenue)
  • Muralla Street (from Sta. Lucia to A. Soriano Avenue)
  • Real Street (from Muralla Street to Sta. Lucia Street)
  • Sta. Lucia Street (from Real Street to Muralla Street)

Alternate Routes for Affected Motorists

To minimize the impact of the road closures, motorists are encouraged to use the following alternate routes:

  • Northbound lane of Taft Avenue: Vehicles intending to use Padre Burgos Avenue must turn right to Ayala Boulevard.
  • Maria Orosa Street: Vehicles should turn right to Kalaw Avenue, then proceed to Taft Avenue.
  • A. Mabini Street: Motorists should turn right to Kalaw Avenue, then head towards Taft Avenue.
  • Northbound of Roxas Blvd. (Pasay Area): Vehicles must turn right to P. Ocampo Street.
  • Delpan Bridge: Vehicles should turn left to A. Soriano Avenue and continue to Magallanes Drive.
  • Trucks and trailers: Vehicles traveling northbound from Osmeña Highway to Mel Lopez Boulevard (Pier Area) should turn right to Pres. Quirino Avenue and proceed to Mabini Bridge.
  • From Dasmariñas and S. Padilla Streets: Vehicles should turn right to Yuchengco Street, then right to Ongpin Street.
  • From Juan Luna Street (intending to use Jones Bridge): Vehicles should turn left or right to Muelle dela Industria.
  • Heavy vehicles from Mel Lopez Blvd. (R-10): Trucks should turn left to Capulong Street, continue to Yuseco Street, and then Lacson Avenue.

The Manila government urges motorists to plan their routes in advance and follow traffic advisories to ensure a smooth commute during the event.
