DDB, government youth commission team up vs illegal drugs

The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and the National Youth Commission (NYC) have teamed up in the fight against illegal drug abuse.

The collaborative efforts initiated by DDB Executive Director Earl Saavedra and NYC chairperson Jeff Ortega would pave the way to exploring opportunities to strengthen anti-drug initiatives among the youth.

During the dialogue, the NYC vowed to actively participate in the DDB’s Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy (PADS) and support the annual celebration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) every June 26.

“We are excited to work closely with the DDB to empower our youth and the NYC is fully committed to supporting the DDB’s initiatives and advocating for a drug-free Philippines,” Ortega said.

“Both agencies look forward to collaborate and implement more programs in combating youth drug abuse for a safer and healthier Filipino youth,’’ Saavedra said for his part.

Earlier, the DDB called on all its personnel to conduct themselves consistent with its drug-free mandate, being the lead policy-making and strategy-formulation agency on drug abuse prevention and control.

In line with the call, the DDB conducted the Training of Trainers on Life Skills Enhancement on Drug Abuse Prevention and Education to its personnel to reinforce their capabilities in resisting drug abuse.

The program also aims to update the DDB workforce on their existing knowledge on the intricacies of substance addiction, shaping their personal skills in delivering effective and efficient public service.

Saavedra oversaw the training to ensure that the agency workforce not only upholds the commitment to preventing drug abuse but also embodies the highest standards of professionalism.

The DDB also noted that it continuously supports its partner stakeholders by building a safer and drug-free community.
