The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed three ships to transport 9,000 relief boxes to typhoon-hit Bicol Region (Region 5) on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The PCG said that BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409), BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402), and BRP Malapascua (MRRV-4403) departed from Cebu City en route to Pasacao Port in Camarines Sur as part of simultaneous relief missions to isolated areas struck by severe flooding and landslides.
“The three Coast Guard vessels carry approximately 9,000 relief boxes, amounting to 75 tons of supplies, from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),” the coast guard said.
“These will be distributed to families in the Bicol region who were affected by [Severe Tropical Storm] Kristine,” it added.
The PCG turned to relief missions after its search and rescue operations in Bicol and other areas devastated by Kristine two weeks ago.
Approximately 1,400 coast guard responders have rescued more than 141,000 individuals in various residential areas that were flooded due to the recent storm.
