TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – The son of a quarry owner was killed and two individuals were injured in a landslide in a quarry site in Barangay Mapulot here on Sunday morning, Nov. 16.
Police identified the fatality as Ramil Hernandez, 48.
Investigation said that Hernandez and companions Jerimie Hernandez and Joey were standing when the side of a mountain being excavated collapsed.
A mass of soil descended on the victims and covered them alive.
The victims were recovered and taken to a hospital where Ramil was declared dead and his companions treated for injuries.
Police Major Eric Veluz, Tagkawayan police chief, said the quarry site had been operating for less than two weeks and had yet to secure a permit as the document was being processed.
The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office is investigating the incident.
Veluz said the landslide was not caused by tropical cyclone “Pepito.”
