BACOLOD CITY – The Victorias City government in Negros Occidental and the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board have partnered to promote responsible viewership in television and movies.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez and MTRCB chairperson and chief executive officer Lala Sotto-Antonio led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the Responsableng Panonood seminar in Victorias City on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The partnership aims to establish a framework of cooperation and dialogue to strengthen coordination of efforts to fulfill the State's policy of promoting the movie and television industries as viable sources of fueling the national economy and to uplift the Filipino cinema community.
Antonio said that the seminar is a key part of their ongoing commitment to promote responsible viewing and to consciously educate and empower every Filipino family to choose age-appropriate and value-rich content that affects and reflects the ideals and fosters positive growth.
Antonio said that the seminar aims to empower parents and supervising adults with the knowledge and the dos needed to create a supportive environment and become a responsible guardian for healthy media consumption.
Benitez said that Victorias City is one with the vision of the MTRCB in building a more informed, compassionate, enliven communities, and a nation of media literate individuals who can effectively analyze, discern, and engage various media content.
“Let us encourage each other not to be passive consumers but active participants. Let us cultivate a mindful media consumption and harness the power of media for good,” the mayor said.
Benitez is hoping that the seminar will equip the people of Victorias to teach their children to be critical thinkers who can make conscious choices.
“Every click, every scroll, and every play button are a choice. Let us arm them (children) with an ability to choose content that educates, inspires, and uplifts so they can protect themselves from misinformation, and harmful influences,” he said.
Benitez urged everyone to use the power of media as a catalyst for significant development and progress in people’s lives and the communities.
