Marcos said in an interview in Catanduanes on Tuesday, Nov. 19, that he was able to schedule a phone call with Trump to congratulate him on his victory in the recent US presidential polls.

"I was able to schedule a phone call to President-elect Donald Trump. At nakausap siya kaninang umaga at naaalala naman niya ang Pilipinas (I was able to talk to him and he remembered the Philippines)," he said.

"[I]t was a very good call, it was a very friendly call, it was productive and I'm glad that I was able to do it and I think President-elect Trump was also happy to hear from the Philippines," he also said.

Although the President said it was a productive call, he revealed that they did not bring up the matter concerning Filipino immigrants in the US. He, however, was able to tell Trump that Filipinos in the US "overwhelmingly" voted for him.

"No, we didn't talk about that. It was just a congratulatory talk but of course our ambassador is already working on it," Marcos said.

"I also reminded the President-elect that ang mga Filipino sa America, overwhelmingly binoto nila si Trump. I'm sure maalala niya yun pag nagkita kami (Filipinos in America overwhelmingly voted for him. I'm sure he will remember it once we meet)," Marcos said.

The Chief Executive said aside from congratulating the incoming US president, he expressed to him the Philippines' desire to further strengthen their alliance.

"Patuloy naming pinag-usapan ang samahan (We talked about the), the alliance between the United States and the Philippines and I expressed to him our continuing desire to strengthen that relationship between our two countries which is a relationship that as deep as can possibly be because it has been for a very long time," Marcos said.

He also disclosed that he is planning to meet with Trump "as soon as I can."
