Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos inked a pledge of commitment to ensure a drug-free city in celebration of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week on Monday, Nov. 18.
Celebrated throughout the country every third week of November by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 124, the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week urges different local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations to conduct numerous activities and information dissemination programs regarding the adverse effects of illegal drugs and how to curb it.
The pledge of commitment was signed at the city hall and was also attended by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) District Officer Mary Arguelles.
During the program, Mandaluyong Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) head Tracy Domingo showcased the achievements of the local government in curbing the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city.
Created under City Ordinance No. 293,Series of 2004, MADAC was mandated to serve as the highest governing body relative to drug problems, plans, programs, and, various operations.
Its objectives include the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Mandaluyong's anti-illegal drugs programs.
In 2022, the Department of Interior and Local Government's (DILG) Regional Peace and Order Council -NCR (RPOC-NCR) cited the city of Mandaluyong for its anti-illegal drugs campaign.
