ILOILO CITY – This city hosted a bilateral food exchange with Chinese chefs over the weekend, a year after being declared as a United Nations, Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization City of Gastronomy.

The MICE Center of the Iloilo City government and the Department of Trade and Industry-Iloilo hosted thechefs from Chaozhou, China, which was also named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy last year.
Cooking demonstrations, food crawl, and food forum were conducted during the event called as Flavors of UNESCO Creative Cities.
One of the demonstrations was conducted by Chef Zhang Laide, executive chef of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Cidj Jalandoni demonstrated how to prepare “batchoy,” a noodle-based dish synonymous with Iloilo.
The Chinese chefs also conducted a cooking demonstration with BS Hospitality Management students of the Western Institute of Technology (WIT) here.
DTI Iloilo Provincial Director Maria Dinda R. Tamayo and Commercial Attaché Froilan Emil D. Pamintuan of the DTI-Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Guangzhou, China accompanied the Chinese chefs in a meeting with key officials and business leaders.
