Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan ordered preemptive evacuation in seven coastal barangays, as part of the preparations for the possible onslaught of Typhoon Pepito.
The threat of storm surge and flooding prompted the mayor to order the preemptive evacuation of the following high risk areas:
1. Baseco (Coastal Area)
2. Parola 1 and 3
3. Isla Puting Bato
4. Barangay 101
5. Barangay 105
6. Barangay 128
7. Barangay 598
The city government said they also prepared the evacuation sites for the evacuees, including the Benigno Aquino Elementary School, Corazon Aquino High School, Herminigildo J. Atienza Elementary School, Rosauro Almario Elementary School, Pedro Guevarra Elementary School and Delpan Evacuation Center.
Owners and contractors of billboards were also directed to take down their outdoor displays for public safety.
Sunday classes, including NSTP and graduate school sessions, in public and private schools are also suspended on November 17.
“With PAGASA raising Storm Signal No. 2 in Manila, all classes at all levels scheduled to start from 4 PM onwards this Saturday, including night classes tonight and all classes tomorrow, are also canceled,” the local chief executive said.
She also cancelled the the Move Manila Sundays for November 17.
"Zero casualty is our goal during and after Typhoon Pepito. Including after because of the deadly threat of leptospirosis, dengue, and other water-borne diseases," she added.
