The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, Nov. 14, announced that Education Secretary Sonny Angara is advocating for a stronger Senior High School (SHS) curriculum as the agency seeks closer partnerships with global companies.
During the "Day of the Future" event organized by the Swiss Embassy on Nov. 13, Angara emphasized the urgency of strengthening the Senior High School curriculum.
He noted that DepEd must ensure it provides students with viable pathways toward employment, entrepreneurship, and technical-vocational professions.
Closer ties with global companies
During the event, Angara also committed to fostering closer ties with industry, highlighting the importance of aligning education competencies with the skills needed in the labor market. He underscored the significance of industry linkages and bilateral relations.
“It’s a very intriguing and promising event,” Angara said in his opening remarks.
The "Day of the Future" is an annual event in Switzerland where students from Grades 5 to 7 participate in career exposure trips.
“I believe the over 300 children who will participate will not forget today. And perhaps it opens the door for DepEd to organize similar events in the future in different localities,” Angara said in his message.
Following its inauguration last year, this year's edition of the "Day of the Future" allowed selected Grades 5, 6, and 7 students to visit work sites and professional settings, including the Swiss Embassy in Makati City.
The Embassy highlighted its commitment to vocational training, showcased the social responsibility initiatives of Swiss companies in the Philippines, and encouraged collaboration to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 1: Ending Poverty.
