Man suspected of being police asset shot dead in Cebu City


CEBU CITY – A 20-year-old man suspected of being a police asset was shot dead here on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

John Michael Ybañez died on the spot due to a bullet wound in the body.

The attack happened at 1:40 a.m. in an alley in Sitio Kamagong, Barangay Lahug.

Police said there were two assailants in the crime. 

One of the alleged gunmen was identified by witnesses as a certain Jaylord.

Police said Jaylord was accused of being involved in illegal drug activities. 

Investigation said the assailant may have suspected the victim of being a police asset whose information that he had providedto lawmen led to successful anti-illegal drug operations in the area.

Witnesses told police gunshots rang out  before they saw two men rushing to leave the area.

The bloodied victim was later found slumped on the ground.

Operations to arrest the assailant are underway, police said.
