Atty. Jordan Pizarras said he aspires to provide free Wi-Fi access to every barangay across the first district.
Pizzaras said there is a pressing need for reliable internet and cell phone connectivity, especially in rural areas.
“It’s truly disheartening that in some areas of Bohol, you pass through long and wide areas with no cell phone or internet signal at all, leaving people isolated and unable to access important resources,” said Pizarras. “If elected, I will prioritize the installation of cell sites and ensure Wi-Fi availability in all barangays in the first district.”
The internet first arrived in the Philippines on March 29, 1994, marking over 30 years since Filipinos began to connect to the global web, he said.
However, in the first district, many barangays are still without even basic cell phone signals, let alone internet access, Pizarras lamented.
Pizarras said his strong network of connections within the country’s two major telecom providers, Globe and Smart, will help him fulfill his campaign promise of giving the province better internet access.
“I have relationships with key individuals in the top management of both companies,” he said, highlighting that these connections could expedite infrastructure improvements for barangays in need.
Pizarras urged residents of signal-deprived areas to reach out to him with the names of their barangays and municipalities, assuring them that he would prioritize the most underserved communities.
He said this is related to his plans to create a digital market for farmers and cooperatives. Connectivity is essential to bridge the divide between the farmers and the Boholano consumers, he added.
“Let me know where there’s no signal, and I’ll make sure that these areas are prioritized,” he stated, encouraging residents to work alongside him in creating a more connected and digitally inclusive Bohol.
