At least five national roads in Northern Luzon remain impassable due to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Nika and Ofel, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Thursday, Nov. 14.
The DPWH Bureau of Maintenance (DPWH-BOM) said the affected road sections are in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR ) and Cagayan Valley Region.
In CAR, the Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Ifugao is blocked by a landslide, while the Lubuagan-Batong-Buhay Road in Kalinga is closed due to debris flow. Additionally, the JCT Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road in Mountain Province has been impacted by soil collapse.
In the Cagayan Valley Region, the Sampaguita-Warat-Suerte-Catarauan-Afusing Road in Cagayan remains flooded, and the Cagayan-Apayao Road at the Itawes Overflow Bridge in Piat, Cagayan, is impassable due to a scoured bridge approach.
Meanwhile, the DPWH Disaster and Incident Management Teams (DIMT) are working to expedite the clearing of the blocked roads, while 18 other typhoon-affected roads have already been cleared and reopened.
