JC De Vera: 'I shy away from social media'
At a glance
After signing his “Forever Kapamilya” contract with ABS-CBN, versatile actor JC De Vera announced his return to television with the upcoming teleserye “Nobody."
JC, 38, will join lead actor Gerald Anderson in the action-drama series set to air in 2025.
“Dito medyo challenging, medyo matetest ulit yung pagiging aktor ko. Something na hindi pa nila nakikita at hindi pa nila na-eexperience sa akin,” said JC, who declined to comment on his character in his latest project for the time being, during an interview in Quezon City recently.
Preparing for his character, JC said: "Meron akong movies na paulit-ulit pinapanood. Meron akong nuances na dapat aralin. May mga movements ako na dapat paghandaan."
JC previously headlined the ABS-CBN and TV5 drama series “Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin” as a doctor. He also appeared in the Philippine adaptation of “Flower of Evil” as a rookie detective.
He also made a mark in teleseryes “The Legal Life,” “Moon of Desire,” “You’re My Home,” “The Better Half,” “Since I Found You,” “La Vida Lena,” and “The General’s Daughter.”
A project under ABS-CBN’s JRB Creative Production, “Nobody,” will be led by directors Benedict Mique and Rae Red.
Asked about a difficult project, JC said: "Of all the projects I had, mahirap ang comedy kesa sa drama and action." But JC said he would welcome any comedy projects.
"Lahat out of my comfort zone talaga lahat. Isa sa masasabi kong hardest 'yung 'Banana Sundae' ang hirap mag-comedy ... masu-surprise sila roon sa next role na gagawin, another challenging role for me. Something na hindi pa nila nakikita and hindi pa nila nae-experience sa akin," he added.
JC expressed a desire to pursue more comedy projects inspired by the legendary comedian Adam Sandler. "Kung gusto kong maging funny siguro any film like what Adam Sandler does pero syempre out of the box kasi syempre masarap maglaro ng acting."
Private family
JC also said he's happy about her eldest daughter Lana, who wanted to become a TV reporter.
"Napapanood niya lagi kayo eh. Pati yung mga journalists and TV anchors natin. Pamilyar na siya kung ano ang lumabas sa noong isang araw," the actor said.
JC, 38, stated that he maintains his family's privacy by staying off social media.
"I shy away from social media. Nagpo-post naman ako pero hindi yung bawa't kilos ng pamilya ko ay nasa social media.
"I have a small circle lang kasi. Yung family namin small. We have a small circle of friends. Hindi rin naman kami palalabas na tao. So naki-keep talaga namin yung privacy namin. And we're happy with that na kami-kami lang," he said.
JC added: "Yun lang siguro talaga. Hindi namin pinapakita lahat sa social media kasi I fully understand na ako la ng yung nasa show business and ayoko ma-involve yung family ko sa industry na pinapasukan ko.
"Lalo na yung mga kids ko nag-aaral sila at maraming magtatanong sa kanila kung tatay ba nila ako or how does it feel ba na yung tatay mo nakikita sa TV. So stuff like that.
"Ayoko ma-put ang family ko in that situation. Gusto ko they want to answer privately pa rin. Yung hindi pa rin nila ikukuwento kung paano ang buhay namin. Kasi ano pa ipapakita namin?" JC also said.
Grateful
JC also shared his gratitude for the company's continuous trust and support.
"I want to take this time to tell everyone how thankful and grateful I am for this day. Sa ABS-CBN kasi kineep pa rin ako. They will be needing my services pa rin. I just want everyone to know that I am still growing as an actor. Alam mo na patuloy pa rin tayong binibigyan ng magagandang opportunities. I am still challenged and motivated," he said.
Since he became a Kapamilya, ABS-CBN has challenged him to take on different roles, which molded his craft as an actor.
"Ever since naging Kapamilya ako palagi akong tinetest ng network na gumawa ng roles outside of my box. Masasabi ko talaga na during my stay dito sa ABS-CBN, wala akong ginawang hindi challenging," JC added.
