Classes cancelled in Zamboanga Sibugay  town as pursuit of lawless elements continue


ZAMBOANGA CITY – The municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay suspended  classes on all levels from Nov. 12 to 13 due to hot-pursuit operations being conducted by security forces against lawless elements in Barangay Mamagon.

Mayor Rino O. delos Reyes has issued Executive Order No. 18, Series of 2024, cancelling classes.

“Whereas, the Municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay is experiencing tensions due to encounters of government troops with the lawless elements, and posing physical risk to students, teachers, and school personnel,” Delos Reyes said.

A military report said at least three suspected kidnappers  from lawless groups were killed during the ongoing operations, particularly in Barangay Salipyasin in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The municipalities of Naga and Kabasalan are adjacent to each other.

Sources reported that up to six personalities from lawless groups have been neutralized in ongoing operations in Canacan and Salipyasin in Kabasalan  and Mamagon.

The operations are reportedly being conducted in relation to the abduction of American national Elliot Eastman.
