The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has deployed sufficient number of personnel to assist in the rescue and emergency operations in areas affected by tropical storm "Nika" in the Cagayan Valley region.
BFP Region 2 Director Chief Supt. Jerry Cordero Lamenero said those deployed are composed of highly-skilled rescuers, medics and support staff, “braved floodwaters and difficult conditions to assist residents and provide emergency medical support.’’
Aside from the rescue operation, teams from the BFP Region 2 Office also swiftly intensified the “essential clearing operations across affected areas’’ that are vital in restoring accessibility and safety for communities heavily impacted by the storm.
Tropical storm battered Cagayan Valley with intense winds and heavy rains, leaving behind downed trees, debris-blocked roads and damaged infrastructures.
In response, the BFP Region 2 Office teams, equipped with chainsaws and other clearing equipment, partnered with other agencies to ensure thorough and rapid clearing of critical routes and public spaces.
“BFP-R2 personnel tackled priority areas including main roads, bridges, and community centers. The clearing operations allowed for faster access for emergency responders and hastened the delivery of much-needed aid to affected families,’’ Lamenero said.
Lamenero also appealed to the public to remain calm, stay vigilant “and report any hazards or urgent needs to local authorities.’’
