Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann on Tuesday, Nov. 12, addressed all the claims written in a letter allegedly signed by Commissioner Fritz Gaston that has been circulating in the social media the past day.
In a statement read during the PSA Forum, Bachmann “categorically deny any claims of misconduct or impropriety” related to his position in the said government agency.
“The allegations made against me, particularly those concerning financial decisions and requests for reimbursements, are misleading and lack substantial evidence,” Bachmann said.
“I have always conducted myself with the utmost integrity and have remained committed to transparency and the responsible management of the Commission’s resources,” he added.
Bachmann also said that as public servants, he understood the scrutiny and the responsibility that come along with the position, but he believed there is a proper channel to deal with such matters as these.
“I welcome any fair and impartial investigation that aims to clarify these claims and promote accountability within the Commission. However, I also stress that public accusations, particularly when leaked or shared outside proper channels, have the potential to undermine the trust and unity necessary within our institution,” he said, adding that he is considering appropriate actions to address the unauthorized dissemination of the letter, including consulting with relevant authorities and exploring legal measures if necessary.
“It is my hope that moving forward, all matters concerning the PSC, including legitimate concerns and criticisms, are addressed within the bounds of proper protocol and due process to maintain the integrity of our institution and ensure that we remain focused on serving the athletes and the greater Philippine sports community,” Bachmann said.
Addressing the media, he added that this matter can be “easily solved” as he can prove the points raised in the letter with supporting documents. He also pointed out that the issues written on the letter were not raised during their Board meetings.
Among the issues pointed out in the letter were unliquidated funds, the Batang Pinoy budget and a request of reimbursement for the Paris Paralympics of a personnel that has no legal entity as far as the PSC is concerned.
“It’s gonna take more than this to break me,” Bachmann said. “My agenda is to serve the athletes and Philippine sports.
