PNP: Court grants medical furlough for Quiboloy due to irregular heartbeat

Detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy has been granted a medical furlough by the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) after complaining of chest discomfort last week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Monday, Nov. 11.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said Quiboloy is currently at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City  and has been undergoing a thorough medical examination.

“Last November 7, he complained of chest discomfort which prompted the PNP General Hospital to conduct a medical examination and based on that medical examination, it was found out that he had an irregular heartbeat that may be considered as life threatening,” said Fajardo.

She said the religious leader was taken to the Philippine Heart Center on Nov. 8 after police doctors factored the medical history of Quiboloy wherein he underwent medical procedure before.

“Supposedly, he would be brought back to the PNP Custodial Center today (Monday) but we received an order from the court (Pasig RTC) which extends the stay of Pastor Quiboloy at the Philippine Heart Center until 5 p.m. on November 16,” said Fajardo.

Fajardo said they complied with the order and will bring back Quiboloy to the PNP Custodial Center not later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Quiboloy was arrested in September at the KOJC compound in Davao City after more than two weeks of operation. He is facing non-bailable offenses relating to human trafficking and child abuse.

Following his arrest, his lawyers immediately sought hospital or house arrest over his medical history but the court denied the petition after the PNP General Hospital declared that his condition is not life-threatening.
