Typhoon “Marce” dealt a devastating blow to the country’s agriculture and infrastructure sectors with combined losses amounting to P41 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday, Nov. 11.
A situational report from the NDRRMC showed that the damage to agriculture in Ilocos Region (Region 1) was P16,247,830.58 while damage to infrastructure in Cagayan Valley (Region 2) was P25,398,600.
This is expected to further increase as local DRRM offices in other affected regions begin to assess the damage wrought by Marce.
The 13th typhoon to enter the country this year affected 374,177 individuals (107,325 families) in Regions 1 and 2, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
There were more than 300 individuals staying in evacuation centers as their houses were damaged or destroyed by the typhoon.
In total, 28,037 houses were damaged by Marce in the three regions. Forty-two areas also remained without electricity
The NDRRMC has provided P40.21 million worth of assistance to the typhoon victims.
