Rico Hoey limped home with a 1-over-par 73 to finish tied for 45th place in the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico on Sunday, Nov. 10.
The Fil-American Hoey failed to sustain his hot opening-round start and continued to slip further in the standings, posting with a 9-under 279 total to finish 15 strokes behind eventual champion Aaron Eckroat in this 72-hole tournament.
He started the final round with a birdie, then kept his pace before bogeying the seventh. He picked himself up and shot another bogey on the 10th, but ran into back-to-back bogeys on the 12th and 13, before posting a birdie-bogey from the 14th.
Hoey started the tournament with a 67 for a share of overnight lead, but slowly slipped after carding 70 and 69 in the succeeding rounds.
He still went home with the $19,864 (around P1.1 million) consolation prize.
Meanwhile, Eckroat shot a 9-under 63 for a one-stroke victory over Justin Lower and Carson Young.
He finished at 24-under 264 for his second PGA Tour title, pocketing the lion’s share of the $7.2 million total purse.
