ILOILO CITY – Nine students were rescued after a small motor banca (wooden-hulled) boat capsized in Capiz province on Wednesday, Oct. 29, due to strong waves generated by super typhoon "Leon."

The Ivisan Municipal Police Station (MPS) confirmed the incident but did not disclose the identities of the students and their age.

The group hired the motor banca to go island-hopping in Ivisan.

However, they encountered strong waves while enroute. The boat turned upside down and a substation of the Philippine Coast Guard promptly responded.

All nine students as well as the boat captain were rescued and taken ashore.

The PCG urged sea travelers not to venture out to sea if the waves are strong.
