DSWD-9 readies 23,500 family food packs for calamity victims


ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development is preparing thousands of food packs for 42 local government units in Region 9 or the Zamboanga Peninsula for impending calamities and emergency situations.

DSWD Public Information Officer Ivan Salvador said 23,573 family food packs and 5,575 non-food items have been prepositioned for 42 cities and municipalities in the Zamboanga Peninsula deemed to be always affected by calamities.

A total of 58,000 family food packs and 24,000 non-food items have also been prepared as augmentation supplies.

Social welfare teams have stockpiled items for immediate distribution in case of calamities in Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga City.

Salvador asked local government units to designate a warehouse where to store the stockpiled items.
