Man drowns after saving kin on All Saints’ Day


BACOLOD CITY – A 28-year-old man drowned after saving his relative during a family outing in a resort in Sitio Batang, Barangay Talaban, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on All Saints’ Day.

Police identified the victim as Joey of Barangay Mahalang here.

Police Lt. Col. Anthony Grande, Himamaylan police chief, said a relative of the victim accidentally slipped and fell into the sea while walking on a rocky part of the resort.

Joey swam towards his relative to rescue her. However, after pushing her relative to the shoreline, the victim was caught by a strong water current and drifted away.

Authorities recovered the victim’s body in a retrieval operation.
