Filipino workers excel in remote jobs, yet married couples report higher happiness levels

Filipino workers are prioritizing meaningful careers that offer a good work-life balance and opportunities for personal and professional growth in the post-pandemic era.

A recent survey by Jobstreet by SEEK has revealed that Filipino workers are increasingly satisfied with their jobs, with a significant uptick in positive sentiment since the pandemic.

The Employee Job Happiness Index 2024 found that 85 percent of Filipino employees reported a positive or neutral response when asked about their job satisfaction, compared to 68 percent before Covid-19.

The survey, which polled over 900 respondents across various industries and specializations nationwide, identified key factors contributing to job happiness.

Work mobility, work-life balance, and inclusive work setups emerged as top priorities for Filipino employees.

The study also noted the positive impact of remote work arrangements. Employees working fully remotely reported higher satisfaction scores (4.82 out of 7) and expressed greater contentment with their work-life balance (4.92).

As more companies adopt remote or hybrid work models, the overall job satisfaction index in the Philippines has seen a notable improvement.

However, regional disparities in job satisfaction persist. Employees in Metro Manila reported lower satisfaction levels (4.46) due to factors like traffic congestion and difficult commuting. In contrast, workers in Mindanao expressed the highest levels of job satisfaction, with an average score of 4.59.

The survey also uncovered generational differences in job satisfaction. Gen Z employees (aged 23-27) exhibited the lowest levels of satisfaction (4.28), potentially reflecting differing expectations and perceptions of work culture and work-life balance compared to older generations.

Interestingly, married or partnered employees reported higher job satisfaction levels (4.60) than single employees (4.46).

According to Jobstreet by SEEK, this may suggest that finding a balance between personal and professional life can enhance overall job contentment.

The survey emphasized the importance of career development and promotion in fostering job happiness. Respondents cited these factors as key contributors to satisfaction, followed by training opportunities and salary.
