Philippines emerges as leading island destination in Condé Nast Traveler Awards

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has celebrated a remarkable achievement as four Philippine islands rank among Asia’s top 10 in the Condé Nast Traveler 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said this accomplishment highlights the Philippines as the only ASEAN nation to feature the most islands in the prestigious list.

Boracay leads the pack, securing third place in Asia with a score of 91.94 and ranking ninth globally, a testament to its enduring allure. Following Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, and Siargao, a Visayan island, earned sixth, eighth, and tenth places, respectively, in the Asian rankings.

“We are immensely grateful to the global travelers who have chosen the Philippines and continue to explore the natural beauty and vibrant culture of our islands,” Frasco said.

She emphasized that this recognition reflects not only the breathtaking landscapes but also the diverse experiences these islands offer, including rich cultural influences and world-class culinary heritage.

In addition to their scenic appeal, these destinations are renowned for their unique cultural experiences, exquisite culinary offerings, and warm hospitality.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in vibrant traditions, savor local cuisine, and engage with welcoming communities that make these islands more than just tourist spots.

Frasco also called for responsible tourism practices to protect and preserve the beauty of these celebrated destinations.

“We invite all travelers to join us in safeguarding the islands through responsible tourism, from reducing waste to respecting our ecosystems. This way, we ensure that these pristine destinations remain protected for future generations,” she added.

The DOT continues to collaborate with local government units and tourism stakeholders to promote sustainable initiatives that enhance the visitor experience while preserving the character of each destination.

Frasco reiterated the DOT's commitment to safeguarding the natural and cultural treasures of the islands, stating that global recognition fuels the nation’s ongoing efforts to uplift Philippine tourism.
