Lightning strike kills sexagenarian in Ilocos Norte


SOLSONA, Ilocos Norte – Police said a farmer was killed by a lightning strike in Sitio Corcuera, Barangay Laureta, this town, on Tuesday, October 8.

The victim, Oswaldo M. Baltazar, 60, was on his way to back to his nipa hut after pasturing his cow in an open field when he was hit during a thunderstorm.

Residents brought Baltazar to the Rural Health Unit here where he was declared dead due to electrocution secondary to lightning.

Meanwhile, a farmer, Nelson Laureta, 77, was swept away while crossing the swollen Bislak River on his way home from pasturing his farm animals in Sitio Nasbatan, Barangay 34 Isic-Isic, Vintar, this province, on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities have mounted a search operation for the victim.

Police reminded the people to be mindful of their safety during inclement weather.
