3 NPA rebels killed in Lanao del Sur clash

ILIGAN CITY – Three New People’s Army rebels were killed in a brief encounter with troops from the Joint Task Force Zampelan in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Malna, Kapai, Lanao del Sur on Saturday afternoon, September 5.

TROOPS seized New People's Army guns and equipment in an encounter in Kapai, Lanao del Sur.

The military identified the fatalities as Rochie Singaman, Wendy Luis, and Hernan Gainalang. Recovered from them were two M16 rifles, one M653 rifle, and one M14 rifle.

The fatalities were believed to be part of the dispatch team of the Sub-Regional Committee 5, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee, led by alias Drags.

Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. William Gonzales commended operating troops for a successful operation.

“First and foremost, we would like to underline the significant role of JTF Zampelan in the neutralization of the said threat group. We anticipate fruitful operations in the months to come noting the continuous efforts and developments made to eliminate the threats in our Area of Responsibility,” Gonzales said.

Operating troops sustained no casualties and are pursuing fleeing rebels.
