PBA commissioner Willie Marcial had summoned and met embattled NorthPort shooting guard John Amores over his alleged involvement in a Laguna shooting incident.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Oct. 5, Marcial said he, along with the league's legal team, met with Amores last Tuesday, Oct. 1,  just days after he and his brother were released on bail after they were charged with an attempted homicide case.

Although not going into details on what transpired in the meeting, Marcial said that Amores was asked to explain in writing the incident that also saw him violate some provisions to the leagues’ uniform players’ contract.

“Pinapunta namin si John Amores last Tuesday sa opisina, nando’n si governor Erick Arejola, si Waiyip (Chong), and si deputy [commissioner] Eric Castro at ‘yung legal natin, si Atty. Melvin (Mendoza)," said Marcial. 

"Kasi nasa UPC (uniform players contract) ‘yung mga kailangan i-explain, ‘yung mga violations niya, so binigyan natin ng letter para mag-explain within five days. Sinabi ko lang na ayusin niya, nagso-sorry siya pero sumagot na rin."

The PBA chieftain is still set to sit down with Arejola and legal counsel Atty. Ogie Narvasa regarding the possible sanctions on Amores although Marcial assured that everything will follow due process

As of now, the Batang Pier guard’s contract remained alive pending the decision not only by the PBA and the NorthPort franchise but also the court.

“Alive pa rin. Kaya ayun ‘yung paguusapan kung papano, kung diretso pa ba ‘yung kontrata or hindi,” relayed Marcial.

As of now, wala pa (suspension) pero ayun nga, tinitingnan namin kung papaano, kailangan ba siyang i-suspend, pwede pa ba siya maglaro sa PBA or hindi na. Nagkaro’n tayo ng due process sa kanya,” he added.
