Student hurt as car crashes into railings in Manila

A 21-year-old student sustained minor injuries after his car malfunctioned and hit the center road railings in Ermita, Manila on Friday morning, October 4.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the driver as Robin Christian Martinez, resident of Parañaque City.

In a police report, the car driver was traveling along the northbound lane of Padre Burgos Street in Ermita at around 2:30 a.m.

Upon reaching Lawton plaza in front of the Metropolitan Theater, the driver claimed that the vehicle's transmission malfunctioned.

The front portion of the car hit the railings on the inner lane. It continued to move rightward and hit the fence barrier on the outer lane.

Due to the strong impact, the solar light post on the inner lane fell. 

The first medical responder brought the driver to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. 

Police said the driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.
