House Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, Oct. 4, to formalize her bid for the Senate in the 2025 mid-term elections.

Villar, running under the Nacionalista Party (NP), is part of the Marcos administration’s “Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas (Alliance for the New Philippines)” senatorial slate.

In her speech at the Manila Hotel Tent City, Villar said she would pursue fresh perspectives and innovative solutions in the Senate to help build a “brighter future” for the next generation.

The congresswoman said she aims to push for legislation that would strengthen livelihood, support for education, housing, and empowerment for women and youth.

As a millennial, Villar says she is ready to bring “new politics” to the country.

“My values are rooted in the Filipino principles of sipag (hard work) and tiyaga (perseverance), which I learned from my parents,” she said.

Villar is the daughter of former Senate President Manny Villar and outgoing Senator Cynthia Villar. She is also the sibling of incumbent Senator Mark Villar.

“Sila ang idolo ko sa pagiging natural mamuno, natural ang puso (They are my idols for their natural leadership and genuine heart),” the Las Piñas solon said.

If she wins a Senate seat, Villar said she would serve as a “new voice” who will push for further development of the Philippines.

“Panahon ng magka senador na mula sa aking henerasyon dahil sa napaka daming pagbabagong nangyayari ngayon sa bayan at sa mundo,” she added.

(It is time to have a senator from my generation because of the many changes happening now in the country and the world.)
