Noting that collaboration is key, Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco has urged local government units (LGUs) to continuosly support the Marcos administration's efforts to end hunger.

"We want to encourage all LGUs to support the implementation of the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) and bolster the government's efforts to fight hunger," Tiangco said in a statement Thursday, Oct. 31.

"We cannot overestimate how LGUs play a crucial role in implementing programs towards zero hunger, food and nutrition security, and sustainable agriculture. Together with partner organizations, our united effort will ensure that no Filipino will go hungry," he added.

Just recently, President Marcos signed a joint memorandum circular bringing together a coalition of national agencies and international organizations committed to making zero hunger a reality in the Philippines.

"Through EPAHP, the government can provide credit and insurance assistance and directly connect community-based organizations (CBOs) to government feeding programs," Tiangco said.

"As of May 2024, this initiative has generated more than P200 million worth of sales and contracts between 122 CBOs and government feeding programs. We are confident that with proper LGU support, we can do more in the coming months," he said.

Tiangco also said that a 14-member EPAHP Steering Committee will be formed, chaired by the Secretary of the DSWD, to ensure proper implementation and monitoring of the programs.

"President Marcos wants the necessary framework in place to ensure the effective implementation of all the measures under EPAHP," said the campaign manager of the administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate.

"Quarterly monitoring and evaluation of the program will also be done to regularly check if resources are being used for activities that will achieve EPAHP's intended goals," he added.
