The government remains in full control over the onslaught of Super Typhoon Leon, President Marcos said.
Marcos made the assurance on Thursday, Oct. 31, as the super typhoon hits Northern Luzon.
"I assure the Filipino people that the government is ably handling all disaster management efforts. We remain in full control," the President said.
He said the government's resources and personnel may be stretched due to the impact of typhoons on multiple fronts. But he assured the people that the government has sufficient assets for mitigation and recovery.
"Nevertheless, we have sufficient assets to mitigate the worst impact, recover from the wreckage, and rebuild stronger than before," he said.
"All agencies and instrumentalities of government remain on full alert, and remain ready to deploy aid wherever it may be needed," he added.
Immediate restoration of power
Meanwhile, Marcos ordered the immediate but safe restoration of power in typhoon-hit areas.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said the efforts to restore power in typhoon-hit areas will be carried out only when it is safe to avoid accidents.
“The power was brought [up] by President Bongbong, but the power return is not that simple...The communication should be addressed immediately. The power should be returned carefully,” Nepomuceno explained.
Nepomuceno urged typhoon-hit communities, especially those in Batanes, not to worry, as the government is ready to immediately send assistance once the weather permits.
