Renewable energy (RE) firm Alternergy Holdings Corporation announced that the Department of Energy (DOE) approved its request to increase the registered capacity of the Tanay Wind Power Project.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, Oct. 30, Alternergy said the DOE allowed the Tanay Wind Power Project to boost its capacity from 112 megawatts (MW) to 128 MW.
Through this, the project would allow a total of 16 wind turbine generators with a rated capacity of 8 MW each.
According to Alternergy, this installation would be the largest onshore wind tower in the country. Construction began last June, and commercial operations are expected to start by yearend 2025.
Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation (AWHC), Alternergy’s sub-holding company, commended the DOE’s support in increasing the Tanay Wind project’s capacity.
Knud Hedeager, president of AWHC expressed gratitude over the government’s approval, stating “We conducted a technical optimization study which showed that the potential net
energy within the production area could generate as much as 128 MW of capacity.”
The construction of the Tanay Wind Power Project in Rizal has already received financing of up to P8 billion from the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and the Security Bank.
Alternergy’s latest developments in Tanay would include an additional wind project in Rizal Province, second only to the 54 MW Pililia Rizal Wind Farm, which began operations in 2015.
Currently, Alternergy has various RE projects, including wind, run-of-river hydro, solar farm and commercial rooftop, battery storage, and offshore wind projects.
The firm hopes to achieve the 500 MW capacity from its clean energy developments.
