A 39-year-old man involved in a taxi carnapping was arrested by the authorities after being involved in a road accident in Pililla, Rizal on Wednesday, October 30.
The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) identified the suspect as “Mark,” a resident of Barangay San Isidro, Angono.
According to authorities, the suspect was arrested after being involved in a road crash that injured two people on a tricycle in Barangay Halayhayin, Pililla, at around 5:40 a.m.
The police recognized the suspect after a 62-year-old taxi driver reported to the Angono Municipal Police Station that he had been robbed and his taxi had been carnapped, an hour prior to the suspect's arrest.
According to the victim, the suspect booked a ride from Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City, and requested to be dropped off in Angono, Rizal on Tuesday, October 29.
Upon arrival, he said the suspect allegedly threatened him with a gun and declared a holdup, and took around P1,500 along with his IDs before fleeing using his taxi.
A swift follow-up and hot pursuit operation across neighboring towns led authorities to respond to the accident involving the suspect, resulting in his arrest.
The suspect is currently detained at the Angono Custodial Facility and will face charges of robbery with carnapping and reckless imprudence, resulting in multiple injuries and damage to property.
