They are staying in evacuation centers scattered throughout the province, which is now experiencing heavy rain from the tropical cyclone.

Evacuees were from 66 barangays in seven towns and one city – Baggao, Gattaran, Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Santa Ana, Santa Teresita, Calayan, and Tuguegarao City.

Bonifacio Cuarteros, assistant PSWDO, said that they are actively monitoring the situation of evacuees.

Food and non-food items have been prepositioned and ready to be distributed to evacuees, he said, adding that they are ready to attend to their needs until the weather disturbance passes and residents return to their homes.

Cuarteros said the provincial government’s Mobile Kitchen Hot Meals on Wheels will provide food to evacuees.

He assured that they are ready to provide additional assistance as relief supplies are enough – 2,000 packed rice and 2,000 sacks of rice in storage.

The provincial government has called on the people of Cagayan to follow authorities with regards to Leon.

Leon is slowly moving closer to Batanes, weathermen said.

The tropical cyclone was 215 kilometers east-southeast of Basco, Batanes (20.0°N, 124.0°E) as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
