Batanes under state of calamity due to ‘Julian’


BASCO, Batanes – This province has declared a state of calamity due to the extensive damage from typhoon “Julian.”

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Emergency Operations Center said 172 families were displaced and 1,463 houses were totally or partially damaged.

Damage to property has reached P611 million.

The declaration of a state of calamity enables the provincial government to use its quick response fund to expedite relief efforts and swiftly implement disaster response and recovery measures.

Affected families here have received family food packs from the government.

Relief operations here and other towns in Batanes are ongoing.
