West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. and the Caloocan Local Government Unit (LGU) have signed a deal to boost water management and minimize water losses over the next three years.
According to their signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), the LGU will issue permits for Maynilad’s non-revenue water (NRW) projects within a maximum of seven days after receiving complete documents for the swift execution of its projects as well as leak repair and maintenance.
Maynilad Central Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Division Head Ryan Jamora stated that previous permit delays disrupted the progress of the NRW projects.
“This partnership will streamline the process for obtaining roadwork permits, enabling us to facilitate projects that are essential for water loss recovery and service level enhancement. We are grateful to the Caloocan LGU for their support, which will be instrumental in accelerating our NRW initiatives,” he said.
Furthermore, Maynilad would handle pipe replacement and leakage control programs, while the Caloocan LGU would manage the timely issuance of clearances, create a technical working group for monitoring, and provide awareness campaigns on preventing water losses.
Meanwhile, Maynilad has been coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to urge LGUs to expedite permit processing and clearances for water project clearance.
The concessionaire is also working on agreements with other LGUs under its service area to expand and fasten their NRW projects.
Maynilad is currently the largest private water concessionaire under the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Systems (MWSS), servicing parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; and the cities and provinces of Cavite.
