Senator Cynthia Villar called on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their family members to register anew for the upcoming 13th OFW and Family Summit.
The event will take place on Nov. 8, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. at The Tent, Vista Global South, C5 Extension Road, Las Piñas City.
“This year’s theme "Tara Magnegosyo Na!" is timely because of many OFWs are returning home and finding ways to grow their hard-earned money overseas,” Villar said.
"The mindset should not be working abroad for the remainder of their life. There should be a viable plan upon return to the Philippines that would make their earnings abroad grow," the senator added.
Villar, a known advocate of the rights and welfare of the country’s migrant workers, said the summit aims to teach financial literacy to OFWs and their families as they can use this as a tool to grow their money in their homeland.
This year’s OFW summit also seeks to educate them on how to secure their hard-earned money and how to avoid falling victim to investment scams, fraudulent money schemes, and other wasteful practices that hinder financial growth.
"This special occasion is a way for my family to give back to our OFWs for the many sacrifices that they have done for our nation,” noted Villar.
“Our OFWs and their families continue to attend this event as they are given the opportunities and services provided by our partners in the private and public sector for concerns ranging from access to financial services, social benefits, legal assistance, among others," she stressed.
Registration for the event is free, and those who can register are OFWs and qualified beneficiaries such as members of their family like their spouses and children, parents and siblings.
For those joining the event, Villar said Philippine passport and working visa of OFW, proof of remittances, Seaman's Book, job contract, copy of documents as proof of filiation to the OFW such as marriage contract, birth certificates and valid identification that prove you are a relative of the OFW are required.
