Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Monday, Oct. 28, the distribution of financial assistance to all the police personnel who were severely affected by the tropical storm “Kristine”.
In his speech during the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony at Camp Crame in Quezon City, Marbil said the distribution of assistance covers the policemen in Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) and also included the civilian employees of the PNP.
Based on the latest accounting, more than 1,000 policemen and PNP non-uniformed personnel were affected by the weather disturbance in the three regions, including damage to their houses.
“Let us give financial assistance. Let's help them so that they will have more time for the construction of their houses,” said Marbil.
Marbil also lauded the policemen in the three regions for their assistance to the local residents in their respective assignments at the height of the “Kristine” onslaught.
A number of policemen were deployed to conduct search and rescue, relief distribution and other forms of disaster response including search and retrieval operations for victims of landslides in Batangas.
“Each act of heroism by our police officers brings hope to those in danger. They are more than just peacekeepers. We are the lifeline for our Filipino people in times of crisis,” said Marbil.
“With that, to all the men and women in uniform, your sacrifices are invaluable. What you do today not only saves lives but secures the future of our Filipino people. Your dedication makes the entire nation proud,” he added.
The PNP leadership is yet to decide on the amount of the cash assistance that will be distributed to the policemen and civilian employees.
