Sea trips in Oriental Mindoro back to normal


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – All sea trips from Batangas to Oriental Mindoro have normalized after the Philippine Coast Guard lifted on Friday, Oct. 25, the temporary suspension of voyages of all ships and watercraft plying the nautical route in the southwest Southern Tagalog area.

The PCG issued a Notice to Mariners allowing the resumption of trips at 5 p.m.  after the storm signal imposed on the province was lifted .

The Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office observed a minimal number of outbound passengers at the Calapan Port at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The PDRRMO said that 34,062 individuals or 8,072 families in 73 barangays in eight towns were affected by Kristine and 2,931 persons sought shelter in evacuation centers in six municipalities.

No deaths were recorded from the tropical cyclone in this province.

The PDRRMO also said that 18 barangays in Socorro town experienced flooding, 16 in Pola, four in Victoria, three in Naujan, and one each in Baco and Calapan City.

Barangay San Cristobal in Victoria and Mabuhay 1 in Socorro recorded landslides that damaged roads while in Puerto Galera, a walkway and protection walls collapsed due to strong storm surge.

All major rivers are in above normal to critical levels but highways from southern Mindoro to the northern part of the province remain passable to all kinds of vehicles.

In a social media post on Thursday, Oct. 24, Calapan City Mayor Malou Morillo and her team distributed food packs to drivers and passengers of Batangas-bound trucks and buses stranded on the main highway that serves as a holding area for all types of vehicles.
