PAGASA: Gates of four dams remain open after STS Kristine

The gates of four dams in Luzon remain open on Saturday, Oct. 26, following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In the latest data released by the PAGASA Flood Forecasting and Warning Section as of 8 a.m., one gate of the Ipo, Ambuklao, and Magat dams was opened, while two gates of the Binga Dam remained open to release water in the aftermath of Kristine.

PAGASA noted that the Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan, had one gate open at 0.15 meters, with its reservoir water level (RWL) at 100.30 meters, close to the normal high water level (NHWL) or spilling level of 101.10 meters.

The Ambuklao Dam, located in Bokod, Benguet, also had one gate open at 0.5 meters. The dam's RWL was at 751.42 meters, which is less than a meter below the 752-meter NHWL.

The Magat Dam, spanning Ifugao and Isabela, had one gate open at 2 meters, with an RWL of 189.46 meters, just a few meters below the NHWL of 193 meters.

PAGASA’s data also showed that the Binga Dam, located in Itogon, Benguet, had two gates open at 1.0 meters. The RWL was recorded at 574.01 meters, close to the NHWL of 575 meters.

STS Kristine, having exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), brought heavy rains to Luzon and other parts of the country in recent days, resulting in rising water levels in the dam reservoirs.
