The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has mobilized 9,005 personnel and 2,048 units of heavy equipment to restore access and assist communities impacted by Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine”.
In a statement, the DPWH said its Quick Response Assets are strategically positioned nationwide to expedite debris clearing and essential road repairs.
Currently, 68 of the 93 disrupted road sections have been reopened, while 25 remain impassable due to severe weather-related damage.
In the Cordillera region, four sections are closed due to soil collapse and landslides, while the Cagayan Valley has two sections blocked by flooding.
Calabarzon reports five impassable road sections from road and bridge collapses, with an additional seven experiencing limited access.
Mimaropa has one section closed due to a landslide, and Bicol contends with twelve closed sections, alongside ten more restricted due to flooding and landslides. Central Visayas also reports one road closed due to a slip.
To ensure the safety of motorists, the DPWH has installed warning signs on affected routes.
“Our teams are working around the clock to restore safe and accessible roadways, understanding that these are vital lifelines for communities impacted by the storm,” the department said.
Furthermore, the DPWH is committed to facilitating the efficient delivery of relief supplies, medical assistance, and other essential services to affected areas, supporting ongoing recovery efforts.
The department is also actively cleaning and declogging drainage systems to mitigate the risk of further flooding, showcasing a proactive approach to support communities in their recovery from this crisis.
