Aribado, 31, prevailed in a nerve-wracking final clash against Japanese Erisa Sano in four sets, 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9, to snare the crown.

Before her reign, the SEAG multi-medalist toppled South Korea’s Boram Ryoo, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6, and compatriot Yvonne Alyssa Dalida (11-7, 11-6, 11-8) in the semifinal and quarterfinal, respectively.

However, her male counterpart Reymark Begornia, who currently holds the No. 1 spot in PH men’s division, bowed to Malaysian PNG Nickhileswar Moganasundharam, 13-11, 11-8, 1-11, 11-9, in the semifinals.

The 32-year-old Begornia, for his campaign, took home bronze while Moganasundharam grabbed the golden honor.

Meanwhile, the juniors team, which was led by Christopher Burage, battles its respective foreign and local rivals in the 2024 Challenger Classic this Monday, Oct. 28, at the same venue

The national squash crew is currently under the tutelage of Malaysian mentor and former women’s world No. 5 Wee Wern Low.

The competition was part of the preparations for the Nationals to get more experience and further bolster their skills with hopes of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Games as squash was recently added in the disciplines of the grandest sporting meet.
