Airport operator New NAIA Infra Corp. said it has removed all x-rays and walk-through metal detectors (WTMDs) existing in all entrances, arrival, and departure areas of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In an advisory, NNIC General Manager for Security Robert Rouland ordered electronic communication department head Engineer Joey Llobrera and NAIA terminal managers to deactivate all X-rays and WTMDs in Terminals 1 to 4 effective Friday, Oct. 25, “to address the issue of long queuing times and resources consumption during periods of increased passenger traffic.”
Rouland assured that the measure will not compromise the security of the area.
“Despite the deactivation of the X-ray and WTMD machines, we will continue to deploy guards at the entrances to conduct thorough access control measures. These measures will include checking boarding passes and employee IDs, as well as maintaining a vigilant presence to deter any potential security threats,” he said.
